Stuck in Saranac Lake for a few hours waiting for a ride home. We had so much ice on the windscreen that I could not complete the approach and the Captain (who had a heated windscreen on his side) had to take over. Then I got bumped off my own flight so they could take more passengers. Now I have time to spare.

Why is that weird blonde/orange hair color so popular with 20-something females right now? I've noticed the hue on a number of people lately. Natural colors would look better on every one of them, though maybe they wouldn't stand out as much.

Can you believe that it's snowing here? On April 8th?

It's days like this where everything is old and familiar, and you remember that struggles in the past have been overcome. The worries of today and tomorrow can wait. Go grab a Smithwick's with a friend and enjoy the time you have now while remembering the great times you had before.

The Sox are playing, wearing their green. The politicians take a step back to make fun of themselves in song. The Chicago River is green, as are the fountains at the White House. The sun is out, and I'm going flying. Everything is in it's right place.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

I'm really going to miss Tim Russert. His death is one of those events in history where it feels as if the world truly changes.

During college I'd watch the rebroadcast of Meet the Press every Sunday night (or really early Monday morning). Some nights, his was the last voice I heard as I drifted off to sleep. Other nights his questions to his guests were so on target that I was riveted to the television, just waiting for an answer. I have long believed that Meet the Press was the most important show on TV, and that Tim Russert is an American institution.

He lived a good, albeit shortened life. I wish his family the best. Take care of your hearts, people.

So I think I'm going to use this to upload photos that I take from my phone while flying.

This is where I work.

Dunes off of Provincetown.

Sometimes I feel like my life is just one long How I Met Your Mother season after another. More so these days, though. It's weird being a mid-20-something.

My car started sputtering a week ago. I took it in to get checked out. It just needed new spark plugs. Meanwhile, I was driving my mother's car around. It didn't want to start most of the time. Guess what it needed? New spark plugs. Yesterday I am running up a plane before an instrument lesson. Fouled spark plugs. We cleaned them and took off. Today, different airplane, different student, different lesson. Fouled spark plugs. They resisted any attempts to burn away the excess carbon. What is going on here? What is life trying to tell me? That I need a spark? That I need to clean off or replace the firing mechanisms in my life? I'd say that's pretty apropos.

but real hearts aren't pretty. And we don't feel with them either. We feel with the hearts that are in our mind. And that is the shape of the heart that is in our mind. It's like two rain drops kissing upside down

So the Southeast Expressway, the most soul-sucking road in all of New England on a Monday morning, became a slalom course today. That's right. I had to weave and bob my car back and forth around giant gaping potholes so my little Korean hunk of metal would make it through the day in one piece. I think this state would do well to spend a lot more money on infrastructure.

Anyway, does anyone want to go see Ingrid Michaelson with me at the Paradise on Saturday night? She's pretty freaking cool. Check out the song "Die Alone."
